St Mary of Charity

The parish church of St Mary of Charity, Faversham has roots that extend back to pre-Christian days. Its history as a building whose look and character has dramatically changed over time and how this has affected the people of Faversham is as intriguing, rich and varied as it is long.

It is our aim that the parish church remains not just a reminder of this past but is a vital and encouraging part of the modern world for the future. The ‘Built to InSpire’ project was created to combine bringing the story of the church and its associations with the community of Faversham alive, together with a variety of resources and engaging educational and social activities for people of all ages and interests that ensure the parish church plays its full part in people’s lives today.

The Built to InSpire project has created an exhibition in the church, a DVD describing the history and role of the church in the community, a range of leaflets and brochures, a timeline describing the church, monarchs and key events in the town of Faversham from pre-Christian times and a range of educational resources supported by an Education Officer to design and organise activities and support the ongoing development of the project.

The information, materials and activities you can access through this website will, we hope, encourage you to visit and find out more about the role and history of the church and Faversham and to participate in the range of activities and events available.
