The Churchyard

The Churchyard  is approx. 1 Hectare in Area ( just over 4.5 acres ) over 4 separate plots, the majority of which are accessible to the public between 09:00 and 17.30.

The Churchyard is maintained by volunteers and variable resource problems over the years mean that some areas are inaccessible due to weed and bramble growth.

A survey of the monuments was conducted by members of the Kent Family History Society in 1986-87. Even then large areas of the site were omitted presumably as they were inaccessible due to being overgrown. Many monuments are now in a sad state due to spalling of the sandstone with many inscriptions totally illegible. Where the names are known but the grave has not yet  been discovered  the record will show “ Not recorded “

Work is ongoing to clear more areas of the churchyard and to complete the documentation of the monuments. Hopefully we may be able to join forces with the Kent Family History Society and proceed with a collaborative venture.

There are some plaques and monumental inscriptions inside the church, which is usually open every day between 09:00 and 17.30.
